T-levels: What are they and why take them?
Hugh Baird College is the only education provider in the Liverpool City Region delivering T-levels from September 2021 but what are they and what do we offer?
Here at Hugh Baird College, we offer a wide range of T-levels but what are they and what are the benefits of studying T-levels?
What are T-levels?
T-levels are a new type of qualification that focus on high-level technical study and work-ready skills. They are studied across 2 years, are developed in collaboration with employers and are worth the same number of UCAS points as 3 A-levels.
Whilst studying a T-level at Hugh Baird College, you will undertake a 45-day industry-based placement where you will apply the theory you learn in the classroom to the workplace and develop the essential work-ready skills that employers are looking for!

We currently offer a wide range of T-levels including:
- Business – Management and Leadership
- Digital – Digital Infrastructure
- Digital – Creative
- Education and Childcare – Early Years Setting
- Engineering – Electro Technical Engineering
- Engineering – Mechanical Engineering
- Health – Healthcare Science
- Health – Supporting Healthcare
- Onsite Construction – Carpentry and Joinery

What do I need to study a T-level?
In order to study a T-level at Hugh Baird College, we look for 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or an equivalent level 2 qualification, usually marked at a ‘Merit and grade 4 in both GCSE English and Maths.
What if I haven’t achieved the grades?
If you would like to study on one of our T-level courses but haven’t achieved the above criteria, you can apply for our T-level Transition Programme which requires a Maths and English GCSE at grade 3 and a relevant Level 1 qualification.
