Course Details

This course is for those aged 16-18 only.

This course is for those aged 16 and above who are wishing to undertake a career in Sport as a multi-sport coach or specialist coach.

The purpose of this qualification is to develop the transferable skills, attributes and behaviours needed for learners to progress to further study and ultimately to employment. The qualification is designed to be delivered in an applied way, bringing together appropriate content with practical and technical skills.

This course will enable you to develop knowledge, understanding and skills relevant to working in the coaching industry.

Work placements with local schools and sports providers and will be an essential feature of this programme and it will also be associated with the development of your coaching skills

The programme also includes studying Maths and English towards GCSE grade 9-4 (old grading system: A*-C) if you do not already have these grades.

  • Participation in Sport - This unit enables learners to develop their practical skills in sport through organising and participating in sports activities.
  • Sports Coaching - This unit allows learners to develop their understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a sports coach, considering personal skills, coaching and communication techniques.
  • Developing Sports Skills and Tactical awareness - This unit provides learners with the opportunity to develop their understanding of technical and tactical skills for a sport of their choice.
  • Plan, deliver and evaluate an activity session - This unit gives learners the opportunity to develop their skills as activity leaders/instructors.
  • Planning and running a sports event - Within this unit learners will develop their understanding of the different types of sporting events and how events and competitions differ.
  • Introduction to healthy exercise and nutrition - This unit provides learners with an introduction to exercise and nutrition.
  • Psychology for sports performance - This unit provides learners with an introduction to sports psychology. Learners will develop their knowledge of the theory of motivation, aggression and strategies that help sports performers.
