Vocational courses

Anyone aged 16 or over can apply to study our full-time or part-time vocational courses - there is no upper age limit. In fact, Hugh Baird College educates 1000's of mature students each year.

You can study different levels of vocational courses, and a Level 3 is equivalent to two or three A-levels. Because of the more technical and applied learning involved in a vocational course, it is a perfect stepping stone into a job, career or apprenticeship.

T-levels

T-Levels are available for those aged 16 to 19 years old. They are also available to students up to the age of 24 who have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

T-levels focus on high-level technical study and work-ready skills. A core component of a T-levels qualification is a 45-day industry-based placement, where you will apply the theory they learn in the classroom to the workplace and develop the essential work-ready skills that employers are looking for.

A-levels

A-levels

At Hugh Baird College, we accept A-level applications from those who will be aged 16 or 17 at the start of their course (September). We only accept A-level applications for those aged 18 in exceptional circumstances such as illness.

A-levels tend to focus on academic subjects and are a great way to prepare for University-level study or even a Higher Apprenticeship. The courses usually take two years to complete, and you sit your exams at the end of the course.

Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships

Anyone over the age of 16 can undertake an apprenticeship.

How you study can vary from apprenticeship to apprenticeship, some require you to attend college one day a week, others require you to do all your studying at work, whilst some are a blend of the two. Apprenticeships are available from Level 2 through to degree level; it typically takes one to two years to complete however some may take longer due to the nature of the programme.

University

University level

Anyone aged 18 or over can apply to study a university level course at the Hugh Baird University Centre, and there is no upper age limit.

The Hugh Baird University Centre offers a growing range of Foundation Entry, Foundation Degree and Degrees, all validated and approved by either the University of Central Lancashire or Liverpool John Moores University.
