Photo exhibition at Bootle’s Strand Shopping Centre

Photography undergraduates will be showing their work in a ‘pop up exhibition’ in Bootle’s New Strand Shopping Centre next week, alongside one of the current exhibitors at Liverpool’s Open Eye Gallery.

The undergraduates are in the first year of a Foundation Degree in Digital Imaging and Photography at the Hugh Baird University Centre, which is validated by the University of Central Lancashire and the exhibition forms part of their Experimental Photographic Practice module. Thanks to the University Centre’s ongoing partnership with the Open Eye Gallery, the undergraduates were supported on the project with first-hand advice from an industry professional.

Photographer, Phoebe Keily, joined the University Centre undergraduates on a ‘photographic walk and talk’ around Bootle for the project which goes on display next week, leading the way with hints and tips and giving feedback on their ideas. She took the opportunity to add to her portfolio of shots by taking photos on the walk around Bootle, which will be included alongside the students’ work in the pop up exhibition.

Phoebe’s exhibition at the Open Eye Gallery, is part of a group show, Open 2: Pieces of You, which sees the artists using images to analyse the past and consider the present. Her work is a compulsive collection of moments, people and places that she passes on journeys and in everyday life. It will run in a continual cycle so she will shift and grow the selection of prints throughout the exhibition.

The undergraduates’ work will be on show at a free exhibition in the former FM Boutique unit in The Strand from 4th May to 7th May. As well as being invited to view the photos showing Bootle as it is now, visitors will also be able to see historic archive photos of Bootle and leave their comments and memories of the landmarks on a ‘comment wall’. The exhibition will also showcase work from the 2nd and 3rd year undergraduates from the Hugh Baird University Centre.
