Hugh Baird College Learner Named 2024 Visitor Economy Adult Learner of the Year

Hugh Baird College is proud to announce that James Bilsborrow has been named the 2024 Visitor Economy Adult Learner of the Year at the recent Liverpool City Region Adult Skills and Community Awards.

Nominated by Stephen Otty, Curriculum Manager at Hugh Baird College, James has shown exceptional dedication and talent in his culinary journey.

James began his educational path at Hugh Baird College in 2023, enrolling in a ten-week Culinary Award program after facing unemployment. His determination and resilience were evident as he completed the course with Distinction, showcasing his ability to produce top-quality dishes. His commitment to excellence led him to pursue a full-time Level 2 Diploma in Culinary Arts that same year, where he continued to excel, achieving Distinction grades, and receiving outstanding feedback for his attitude and skills.

Over the summer, James completed industry-standard work experience at the Silverstone Grand Prix through the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts. His performance impressed the team so much that they offered him part-time work at other high-profile events, further solidifying his place in the culinary world.

Now studying for a Level 3 Diploma in Professional Cooking, James not only excels in his studies but also demonstrates leadership by mentoring younger students, reflecting his commitment to both his craft and his peers.

James said:

“I am absolutely delighted to receive this award. It has been an incredible journey, and I am grateful for the support from my tutors and the opportunities provided by Hugh Baird College. I hope to inspire others to pursue their passions in the culinary arts.

The Liverpool City Region Adult Skills and Community Awards celebrated the achievements of adult learners across various sectors, highlighting the importance of lifelong learning in personal and professional growth.
