Hugh Baird College Celebrates ERSA Award Nomination for Career Connect Partnership
Hugh Baird College is proud to announce its recognition as part of the prestigious ERSA (Employment Related Services Association) Employability Awards 2024.
The nomination highlights the success of Turnaround, a collaborative project with Career Connect. The Turnaround programme is a tailored initiative aimed at re-engaging young people aged 16-18 who face significant barriers to education and employment. Developed in partnership with Career Connect, it provides bespoke employability and study skills while building independence and confidence.
Career Connect is a nationwide service that offers impartial bespoke careers information, advice and guidance to support the transition into education, employment and training.
Hosted at a local community centre to overcome accessibility challenges, the Turnaround programme offers intensive careers guidance, work experience opportunities, and pastoral support. Its pilot phase was highly successful, with 100% of participants progressing into education, employment, or training. The project has since expanded, creating 69 new learning pathways, including an online programme specifically designed for young people with special educational needs.
Sarah Collins, Director of Foundation Studies at Hugh Baird College, expressed her pride:
We are incredibly proud to see the Turnaround Project recognised on such a prestigious platform. This programme highlights the importance of collaboration in addressing the needs of young people who face significant challenges.
The success of the Turnaround Project demonstrates what can be achieved when we listen to young people, understand their needs, and work together to provide tailored support. To see so many participants progress into education, employment, or training reflects the hard work and dedication of everyone involved.
Sarah Vaughan, Senior Operations Manager for Career Connect Sefton team, said:
It is fantastic to see the ERSA nominations for our work in Sefton. We know that services need to be designed around people.
Working together has also further strengthened our relationship with Hugh Baird College and it is leading to even more exciting opportunities.
I’m very proud of everyone involved in making the Turnaround Project a success, and also want to say a big thank you to our partner Hugh Baird College.
