Level 1 Military Preparation and Level 3 Uniformed Services students from Hugh Baird College recently undertook a challenging four day Army Insight Course at The Swynnerton Army Training Camp in Stone near Stoke-on-Trent.
The gruelling few days consisted of various exercises that tested the overall fitness of the students and gave them an understanding of Army life. Each of the exercises taught throughout the duration of their experience was designed to give the students an opportunity to fully submerge themselves into life in the Army. Exercises included basic levels of first aid, cooking in a field and strategic thinking. Other topics that the students discussed and practised included team working, employability within the Army and target setting.
Overall the trip not only inspired the students, but also gave them a well-rounded understanding of what life would be like in the Army by allowing them to practise what they have learnt in the classroom. As a result of the trip, the students came away feeling enthusiastic about their futures and their course and excited about achieving their personal targets.
Level 3 Uniformed Services student, Emily Telford, who was awarded ‘Best Cadet’ at Swynnerton Army Training Camp, said:
It was a really great experience to take part in, it was so interesting to see what it would really be like training for the Army and gave me an understanding of the level of fitness that would be required.
