Written in collaboration with industry experts, this course gives undergraduates the opportunity to explore and perfect their approach to establishing a reputation in the makeup industry and creating a specialised pathway for their career.

Learners will be expected to work independently and apply critical thinking as they look into the future of makeup design and development. Supported by academic work, they will take part in workshops, practical assessments and design briefs, producing an industry-ready portfolio.
Modules will enhance the broad contextual and subject-specific knowledge base, empowering independent study and critical and analytical research. Through self-initiated projects, learners will embed the use of sector appropriate technology, honing skills relating to design and digital, including photography and the use of the digital design suite.

Students are encouraged to work collaboratively with artists from a variety of disciplines to enhance their outcomes and forge professional connections, from both the University Centre, and the wider industry.

Learners will work on independent briefs and employ industry-standards. There is an opportunity to focus on specialised pathways through a final major project that will showcase the culmination of skills learnt throughout their education and experience. This will evolve and improve through group critiques, applying both practical and academic skills at Level 6 standard. Leaners are encouraged to focus on future projections of their practice and portfolio, resulting in an end of year formal presentation and exhibition of work.

External industry guest speakers will enhance your experience further allowing you to develop a current awareness of trends and products. Tutors are active practitioners within the industry that offer invaluable insight into current practice and opportunities for students to enhance their learning with work experience. The course has strong links with industry, including worldwide make up companies, that provide seminars and demonstrations throughout the year to promote employability within industry.
