Course Details
This course has been created to support and nurture creative talent and is focused upon providing you with the film production practical skills that are lacking in the industry. Modules have been developed to tackle the gaps employers have identified in specific areas and, as such, you will create projects for local businesses from within the University Centre and in the workplace.
You will be provided with training in camera, sound, lighting, post-production and production management with particular emphasis on factual and narrative film production and corporate media production. You will have full access to professional cameras, film and sound equipment and Adobe suite editing software. Working on a variety of projects including short film production, documentary, instructional, promotional and how to shoot an interview. You will experience working to ‘live’ client briefs, budgets and deadlines.
Taking part in ‘live’ project briefs commissioned by local companies, with fixed film production deadlines will nurture skills and experience directly relevant to your career development. You will also have the opportunity to undertake a work placement with a media related employer.
Previous employers have included Sensor City, Netflix, Mersey Mirror and various local media companies.
You will undertake film studies classes, exploring contextual studies, scriptwriting and narrative theories as well as exploring critical studies and film theory.
Teaching staff on the course have substantial experience of working in the film production industry and film studies academia and continue to work in the film production sector.
