This course has been designed to provide you with a critical understanding of contemporary and future debates within the film production industry. It will equip you with critical, technical and transferable skills that will enable you to progress into a career in the industry.
The aims of the programme are to:
- Develop and promote employability skills through live briefs, enterprise, integration with the community and awareness of career opportunities and current practices, preparing students for a career in the film production industry
- Develop the ability to produce creative and innovative work of high quality applying current industry conventions
- Introduce knowledge of a range of production and post production tools and techniques to be applied to professional productions and public exhibitions
- Develop transferable skills of self evaluation, independent research and project management and development
- Further provide a sound grounding in social and critical issues around film production and media practice which will both underpin post-university work and equip those wishing to embark on postgraduate study
You will be encouraged to be creative and innovative, producing a range of work for live briefs, enterprise and exhibitions, and gain in-depth knowledge of both film production and post production tools and techniques. You will have the opportunity to undertake a work placement at a national media company. The ability to project manage and work independently will be essential requirements. You will have full access to studio space featuring green screen capability, professional cameras, film production and sound equipment and the latest Adobe suite editing software.

Applicants will need to evidence the following:
- Foundation Degree in Moving Image Production OR
- Foundation Degree in another media related subject AND
- A Successful interview
UK Applicants:
At the interview they will be required to present a portfolio of work that
displays their skills
to their best advantage.
European Applicants:
European applicants may not be able to attend an interview in the UK. Once
the application
has been processed, they should submit an e-portfolio, CD or
DVD of their recent work; this
will be followed by a telephone interview.
UK and EU Entry: Equivalent international qualifications will be considered
towards meeting the
general entry requirements. Additionally, EU students,
for whom English is not the first language, will be required to evidence an
IELTS score or 6.0 or equivalent. Equivalences include:
- TOEFL written examination score of 550 plus a test of written English (at 4)
- TOEFL Computer Equivalent score of 230
- Proficiency in English (Cambridge) at Grade C or above

How much will this course cost me?
Tuition fee loans cover university/college tuition fees and are paid direct to the university/college by Student Finance England, so you don’t need a pot of money up front.
They are available to all eligible students regardless of household income. The amount you pay back is dependent on how much you earn and not how much you owe and you won’t need to start paying them back until you are earning more than a certain amount.
It’s never too late to learn
We welcome applications from mature students (aged 21 years or above). Even if you don't have the entry requirements, you may have gained knowledge and skills from relevant work or life experience, so we would consider your application on an individual basis.
