Course Details

This course is designed to teach learners the basics of floristry, with an introduction to the tools used, care and conditioning of plant materials, the principles and elements of design and a selection of different types of floral design, using flowers available at varying seasons throughout the year. This course may be taken throughout the year, so that students have an opportunity to use flowers available in the different seasons.

The course is run as a part-time course comprising of one day per week, for three hours over the duration of five weeks.

Topics vary depending on the time of year the course is studied. But topics and modules can include:

  • Introduction / Health & Safety
  • Conditioning flowers and identification
  • Create a handtied gift wrapped bouquet
  • Create a posy arrangement in floral foam
  • Create a collection of wired buttonholes and boutonnieres
  • Create winter garland for headdress or mantle
  • Create a fresh twig door design or swag
  • Cost designs
