Course Details

Take the first step to an exciting career in beauty therapy. This Level 2 course introduces students to the treatments and skills they’ll need to thrive in this industry. Learn what it takes to become a beautician, with dedicated support from industry professionals and enrichment activities to broaden your understanding and boost your employability for the future.

What will you learn?

You’ll explore the beauty treatments that modern-day clients are looking for, from lash and brow services to waxing, manicures, pedicures and facials. The skincare module is taught using Eve Taylor products, so students get used to using premium brands that are adopted industry-wide. If you’d like to take your skills a step further, you can take an optional module on gel nail polish.

You’ll develop your understanding of the anatomical structures of the body systems through anatomy and physiology studies. This unit provides students with a full understanding of the skin and body, so you can perform beauty therapy treatments and effectively.

Develop your skills in a commercial salon

Hugh Baird College is home to a set of realistic commercial salons. They work just like any other salon - clients book appointments and you’ll manage the appointment system while providing a first-class service. You’ll get regular opportunities to apply your knowledge in these salons, to advance your skills and boost your confidence with actual clients.

Get involved with the community

Students at Hugh Baird College can get involved with community events throughout the year. You’ll visit hospitals and attend well-being events to offer massages, manicures and other treatments. These events are all about perfecting your skills while giving something back.

Is this course right for you?

The Level 2 Beauty course is open to anyone aged 16+. You don’t need experience in the beauty industry, but you do need a drive and passion for the sector. We welcome school leavers as well as adults that are already in the industry and looking to specialise or gain some more technical knowledge.

If you don’t already have the equivalent of Maths and English GCSEs at grade 4 and above, you can study towards this alongside your beauty course.

How will you be assessed?

To gain this VTCT Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Specialist Techniques qualification, you’ll need to pass two written exams spread out across the year. Students will also undertake a trade test-style assessment. You’ll be presented with a concept (such as a type of massage or facial) and perform the treatment while under observation.
