Course Details

Get the skills needed to become an advanced site carpenter, with a Level 3 Qualification in Site Carpentry and Joinery at Hugh Baird College. Learn how to build and install complex components needed on a building site or commercial or residential premises, alongside the key qualities that see you climbing the ladder in this thriving industry.

What will you learn?

This is a supervisory-level course combined with complex carpentry and joinery techniques, including curved work, double doors and using geometry to build a traditional roof from scratch. You’ll need to understand the theory behind your practical work, be able to carry out independent research, and work under your own directions.

There’s a deeper delve into machines and maintenance, and you’ll learn to set up machines as though you were a site supervisor.

Site Carpentry and Joinery at Level 3 prepares you for a leadership role. From preparing machines to applying practices in line with health and safety requirements, you’ll get a genuine insight into a career in the industry. You’ll be expected to solve environmental and task-related problems, and learn how to manage people and projects.

Is this course right for you?

This course welcomes men and women of all ages with a Level 2 Site Joinery and Carpentry qualification. We prefer if you already have Maths and English GCSEs at grades 4-9, but you can study for them alongside your course if necessary.

How will you be assessed?

You’ll need to demonstrate a high level of skills and knowledge to achieve this qualification. Assessments take place throughout the year and are a mixture of assignments, projects, case studies, practical exercises, question papers and portfolio building.
