Q&A

  1. Creative Producer at Open Eye Gallery.

  2. Digital Imaging and Photography - Foundation Degree and BA (Hons) Top up.

  3. Formby High School.

  4. I’m currently doing an MA in Socially Engaged Photography, which is part time over 2 years. A big part of the next 5 years is to continue learning and developing my practice as a photographer. I have no idea what that looks like but I'm looking forward to the journey.

The course encourages real world experience, which includes working on live briefs set by different clients. It teaches you what a professional job looks like and gives you experience of working in different environments.

I was looking at Degree level photography courses in Liverpool and this was the only one that was solely photography. After meeting the tutors, I got a good feel for the course and decided to choose the Hugh Baird University Centre.

The course encourages real world experience. As part of that, we do live hours working with different clients and have set briefs. It teaches you what a professional job looks like and gives you experience of working in different environments.

We visited a lot of places during my time at the University - Paris, Budapest, Rome, Edinburgh and London. Trips are a great way to get to know your fellow students and they open you up to new cultural experiences. Paris Photo was one of the standout experiences - it was inspiring to see and hear talks from some of my favourite photographers and it shows you the level that is needed if you want to make it in the photography world.

Andrew's advice:

Education is important and investing any time in learning is a positive one. What you put in, you get out.
