Cobalt Housing has partnered with Hugh Baird College and Lovell to give real life work experience to young people living in their communities, supporting their aim to deliver the best possible services for residents in their communities and working with Liverpool City Region Partners to maximise training opportunities and create new jobs.

Throughout the construction of the Cobalt Housing Waterdale Gardens development, students from Hugh Baird College who are studying construction trades qualifications will benefit from a four-week placement on-site and meet with Cobalt’s Development Team.

Kayleigh Clarke, Development Officer at Cobalt, said:

Firstly, a big thank you to Paul and Laura from Lovell’s training team for supporting this partnership with Hugh Baird College. A massive thank you also goes to all of the site workers who have shown a clear commitment to developing and supporting the next generation. Cobalt Housing is dedicated to getting the best and most meaningful social value outcomes, and it is great to work with a contractor who realises the importance of raising young people’s career aspirations.

Dominic, a 17 year-old Croxteth resident, began his 4-week work placement with Lovell on our Waterdale Gardens development. Dominic, is studying a Level 2 Joinery course and will get involved in first and second fix works, as well as learning site safety.

Lesley Weir, Business Development Manager at Hugh Baird College, explains:

We have been working with Cobalt Housing since September 2023 to implement a work experience programme to enrich our learner experience and to upskill the next generation of workforce using reputable contractors on their framework. This partnership is strong, and it’s encouraging to see that Cobalt Housing is passionate and keen and can offer such amazing opportunities for young people.
