Course Details

This exciting groups of courses will allow managers and aspiring managers to develop their core management knowledge, skills and competencies through a series of study sessions that lead to a group of assignments focusing specifically on your own workplace and experience.

Throughout the courses, you will be exposed to up to date management thinking, processes and practices that will help you to identify best practice in management and leadership and work out how these insights can be implemented in your own workplace.

Your study will be led by experienced managers and supported by the wealth of resources that are available both from the University Centre and from the Chartered Management Institute. With personal and academic support from our experienced teaching staff, you will work with colleagues on the course to develop your management practice.

Teaching and learning will be delivered through a range of lectures, practical workshops, research seminars and group discussion sessions. Guest speakers from different areas of management practice will discuss key issues of interest to all managers.

The Award, Certificate and Diploma are all Level 5 qualifications in Management and Leadership. They are designed for practising middle managers, those wishing to become middle managers and those aspiring to senior management. They are intended for anyone in a management position who wants to develop their core management skills in areas such as managing resources, people and information.

The key aim of these qualifications is to focus on the development of the individual student’s management capabilities and competencies.

Award
The Level 5 Award in Management and Leadership lets you strengthen and develop your knowledge of management practice by focusing on specific management areas that are applicable to your job.

Certificate
The Level 5 Certificate in Management and Leadership gives you a broader knowledge of management skills while focusing on the specific leadership areas appropriate to you and your workplace.

Diploma
The Level 5 Diploma in Management and Leadership is designed for middle managers and those aspiring to senior management who want to develop their key skills.

Working and learning on the course will be delivered through a range of lectures, practical workshops, seminars and group discussion sessions.

Entry onto the CMI Award Certificate and Diploma programmes will be via a successful interview with the course leader.

We would normally expect applicants to have either:

  • Experience in a junior management/supervisory role;
  • Some experience in a middle management role or;
  • The aim of competing successfully for a middle management role

Award
Part time over 3 hours per week for 4 weeks (one evening per week).

Certificate
Part time over 3 hours per week for 10 weeks (one evening per week).

Diploma
Part time over 3 hours per week for 32 weeks (one evening per week).

How much will this course cost me?

Tuition fee loans cover university/college tuition fees and are paid direct to the university/college by Student Finance England, so you don’t need a pot of money up front.

They are available to all eligible students regardless of household income. The amount you pay back is dependent on how much you earn and not how much you owe and you won’t need to start paying them back until you are earning more than a certain amount.
