Foundation degrees were introduced by the government in 2001 to meet the needs of both employers and employees as part of a commitment to enhance education and training in health and social care in line with the development of a modern career framework.
The development of this pathway has been in response to the health and social care field constantly changing and introducing new practices in reaction to adaptations to social policy and government agenda. Therefore, it is essential for all health and social care professionals to maintain up to date knowledge and be flexible in delivering practice to suit the current sector. Our Foundation Degrees equip students with professional skills and knowledge that enables them to develop and excel as excellent practitioners within the caring occupations.
The Health and Social Care - BSc (Hons) Top up can also be completed here at the Hugh Baird University Centre, where students will be allocated a supervisor to offer support when carrying out their research project.
Stan Afflick, General Manager, Active8 Support Services
"Working in Partnership with the Hugh Baird University Centre has always been mutually beneficial and enriching. We’ve had several good students on placement and all of them have been well prepared and up for the challenges that our work throws at them. Support from the Hugh Baird University Centre for both students in placement and businesses providing places is solid without being stifling to enable the uptake of a variety of learning chances. It was very rewarding to be recently invited to work with a group of students at the main campus. We look forward to a continued link with the Hugh Baird University Centre."
Chad Brown, Health & Social Care - Foundation Degree (FdA)
