Uniformed & Public Services

The Uniformed and Public Services department offer courses that will be ideal for you if you wish to follow a career in either the armed or civilian public services, for example, Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Royal Air Force and all branches of the Army.

We will also prepare you for careers in our civilian public services such as the Fire Service, Police and Ambulance Service, Prison Service, Coast Guard and the legal system. For the first time, we will include Nautical Studies as part of the Public Services (Uniformed) - BTEC Extended Diploma – Level 3 qualification.

Our courses have many aspects and are portfolio based, with assignment submissions. This will include a practical emphasis on personal fitness development for each of the services’ requirements. As a Uniformed & Public Services learner, you will have the opportunity to take part in rock climbing, trekking, map reading, overnight trips and much more. You will also take part in a number of outside visits arranged for this coming year including Fire Station and Police Headquarters visits, a tour of the Crown Courts and days out at Royal Air Force bases.

We are one of only approximately fifty schools and colleges in the UK to be awarded Platinum Partner status by the Royal Air Force.

Learn transferrable skills, disciplines and knowledge for a number of career paths in addition to the uniformed services, for example:

  • Probation Officer
  • Young Offenders Team ( YOT)
  • NHS Administration
  • Police Civilian Administration
  • Job Centre Career Advisor
  • Communication and Technology (control room)
  • Security Officer
  • Criminal Courts Administrator
  • PCSO
  • Court Administration
  • Social Support Worker
