The Travel and Visitor Economy sector offers you a wealth of exciting opportunities and qualifications in this area opens the door to a wide range of careers.

The Travel and Visitor Economy department at Hugh Baird College offers an exciting and vibrant environment for anybody who has an ambition to enter this field.

There is a range of courses available that will give you the skills and knowledge that you need to enter employment or to progress on to university. The courses will give you the skills to be able to deliver excellent customer service, plan trips abroad, research European destinations, deal with passengers and much, much more.

With the development of the new SuperPort in Sefton, as well as Liverpool becoming a recognised cruise ship terminal, there has been a major impact on the tourism industry in and around the city. In addition to the obvious effects in terms of visitors and shipping, there will also be a huge impact on the amount of air traffic coming in and out of Liverpool John Lennon Airport both in terms of freight and cruise transfers.

There are no formal qualifications for our Level 1 courses.

These study programmes have been designed to prepare you to progress to study at Level 2 or to employment. These programmes not only give an insight to your chosen vocational area, but also give you the opportunity to undertake work experience and other activities that will prepare you quickly to get a job or to move on to higher levels in your chosen field. These programmes also include the development on maths and English skills.

You will need to have successfully completed a relevant Level 1 course or have 4 GCSEs at grade G (new grading system: 1) or above or have industry related experience.

We will also work with you to help you develop maths and English skills.
