Higher Apprenticeship in Management and Leadership Level 5

You will study a mixture of units designed to give you an insight into the many different areas of management and leadership. 

This qualification is ideal for experienced managers with substantial programmes and resources who provide a leadership role across any industry or sector. 

You will consolidate your management skills and experience, gain comprehensive business knowledge, and develop the technical skills you need to lead effectively at this level in an operational management role.

You will study a range of modules as part of the course, including these core units for the Diploma in Management and Leadership:

  • Contribute to the development of a strategic plan
  • Design business processes
  • Manage strategic change
  • Provide leadership and management

You will also be able to choose a number of optional units which will allow you to study particular areas in more depth. These include:

  • Manage strategic marketing activities
  • Manage a tendering process
  • Manage a project
  • Review the quality of customer service

You will also study a range of modules as part of the technical qualification, including these core units for the Diploma in Principles of Leadership and management:

  • Understanding the management role to improve management performance
  • Managing improvement
  • Making a financial case
  • Developing critical thinking
  • Leading innovation and change

You will also be able to choose a number of optional units which will allow you to study particular areas in more depth. These include:

  • Becoming an effective leader
  • Coaching and mentoring

You will also achieve:

  • Employee Rights and Responsibilities
  • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills

What are the entry requirements?

In order to qualify for this course, you will need:

  • To be able to demonstrate ability equivalent of or exceeding level 2 English and Mathematics
  • You will have significant experience of working a middle management level to ensure that you have the suitable foundations on which to further build your knowledge and skills.
  • Achieved an Advanced and or Higher Apprenticeship in a wide range of sector specific areas, such as Retail, Business and Professional Administration, Healthcare or Management. Or demonstrate sufficient experience of working in a management role.

Entry to all courses are subject to a successful interview, a satisfactory reference from your school or employer and evidence that you will be a committed student.


What can I do if I complete this course?

  • A range of Business and Management qualifications including Degrees or Masters in Management and Leadership, Business and Business Management
  • Possible membership of bodies, including the Chartered Management Institute and the Institute of Leadership and Management
  • May be able to progress your career to senior management or director roles
