This course provides an access route into design education at degree level. Successful completion leads to progression onto a related degree programme at UCLan. Alternatively, you may have the option of progressing onto a related foundation degree programme at the Hugh Baird University Centre. Terms and conditions apply.
The course will enable you to explore visual merchandising, graphic arts, media, photography and media make up, as well the traditional aspects of art and design such as life drawing, experimenting and developing skills in a range of media.
This is a practical based course that will allow you to express your creative ability and communicate ideas in 2D and 3D format before specialising in a subject area that will help you to progress onto your preferred degree programme.
You will explore and develop your skills in sketchbook diaries and compile a design portfolio in both semester 1 and 2 in readiness for the first year on your chosen degree course.
You will be embedded into the Higher Education culture within the Hugh Baird University Centre and will have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of undergraduate experiences, for example international trips, guest speakers and industry led workshops.
The Design (Foundation Entry) BA (Hons) teaching and learning strategy will be delivered through a range of lectures, practical workshops, tutor led sessions, individual and group tasks, personal research, group seminars, individual tutorials, critiques and reflective practice activities.
You will have the opportunity to explore the diverse design disciplines prior to identifying your chosen pathway for your final major project.
Local, national and international trips will also enhance the student experience.
