An up and coming Hugh Baird College Hairdressing student is calling on the people of Liverpool to vote for him to be crowned the UK’s top upcoming artist.
Eric Joey Jones from Southport, who is studying on the Level 3 Hairdressing at Hugh Baird College, is one of the top 10 finalists who will be representing the city in the “Create The Look 2017” competition organised by business insurance provider SME Insurance, which arranges cover for hairdressers and salons.
The finalist with the most votes will be crowned the UK’s top upcoming stylist and will receive a professional photoshoot experience for their winning ‘look’ and a selection of hair and beauty products from lookfantastic.com worth up to £200.
Speaking after hearing about being placed in the top 10, Eric said:
“I found out about the competition because of my tutors asking if anyone would like to enter. I submitted my entry, but didn’t really expect to hear anything. When I got the call, I was delighted to have been placed in the top 10. I’m now looking to push on and gather as many votes as I can. I’d like to say a special thank you to my friend and fellow student Bethan Sanders who did a superb job on the make up for the look.”

Eric’s tutor Sara Carter added:
“Everyone at the college is really excited about Eric’s success in the competition so far. Students have been rallying together to get as many people as possible to vote for him.”
The results of the public vote will be combined with the opinions of three expert judges, who will also be selecting their favourite look by the finalists. The “Create the Look” judges are Jodie Withers, Editor of Good Salon Guide, Emily Hunter, Editor of Beauty Magazine and Katherine Priest, makeup artist and blogger at Katherine-Louise.com.
Jonathan Webber, Commercial Director of SME Insurance Services (SMEi) commented:
“We have been blown away by the quality of entries we’ve received from up-and-coming hair stylists, make-up artists, and beauticians from across the UK. Now in its second year, ‘Create The Look’ aims to nurture and celebrate the emerging talent of the future who are passionate about their profession in the hair and beauty industry. It’s provided the perfect opportunity for these finalists to showcase their work, and we’d urge everyone across Liverpool to cast their vote for Eric Joey Jones online before 3pm Tuesday 21 March.”
