Health & Social Care - Extended Diploma – Level 2

This course enables applied study of the health and social care sector, providing you with an introduction to key areas relating to current practice.

This course promote high quality care and support and has been mapped to the standards within the Care Certificate and National Occupational Standards.

With a huge demand for workers, plenty of opportunities for progression and a job in which a high percentage of workers report they feel their work makes a difference, this course provides a pathway for individuals considering a career in health and/or social care. The number of adult social care jobs is projected to grow to around 2.2 million by 2025.

What topics/modules are covered?

This course is made up of mandatory units and a range of optional units covering key areas of current practice in health and social care such as:

  • Equality, diversity and rights in health and social care
  • Human growth and development
  • Safeguarding and protection in health and social care
  • Communication in health and social care
  • Working in health and social care
  • Creative activities in health and social care
  • Dementia awareness

All units will be internally assessed by your Tutor or Assessor using a range of methods which could include: written assignments or tasks such as designing a leaflet or booklet, charts or diagrams or setting up an information board.


What are the entry requirements?

In order to qualify for this course, you will need at least one of the following:

  • 4 GCSEs at grade D (new grading system: 3) to include English Language. It would be beneficial for you to also have subjects such as Maths and Science at Grade D (new grading system: 3)

Or

  • A relevant Level 1 qualification

Or

  • Industry relevant experience

Study Programme

If you are aged 16-19, this qualification will form a substantial part of your study programme. The study programme has been designed to ensure that young people are fully equipped and ready to move on to the world of work or higher level courses. In addition to your main qualification, will you also get the opportunity to undertake relevant and CV bolstering work experience out in your chosen industry. You will also be supported through maths and English qualifications.
