Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care - Level 1

This course will enable you to develop a basic knowledge of the adult social care sector and is aimed at those who wish to explore roles in this field.

This course will help you develop knowledge and understanding by applying learning and skills in a work-related context. The course is popular and effective because you will take responsibility for your own learning and will develop skills that are essential for the modern-day workplace.

This course provides a pathway into the sector for individuals considering a career in health and/or social care. It offers an opportunity to develop knowledge about the wider health and social care sector, gain information and support your decision about career progression.

With a huge demand for workers, plenty of opportunities for progression and a job in which a high percentage of workers report they feel their work makes a difference, this course provides a pathway for individuals considering a career in health and/or social care. The number of adult social care jobs is projected to grow to around 2.2 million by 2025.


What topics/modules are covered?

This course has 5 mandatory units;

  • Introduction to the adult social care sector
  • Introduction to the values and principles of adult social care
  • Awareness of the skills and attitudes needed to work in adult social care
  • Awareness of communication in adult social care
  • Awareness of the role and responsibilities of the adult social care worker

All units will be internally assessed by your Tutor or Assessor using a range of methods which could include: written assignments or tasks such as designing a leaflet or booklet, charts or diagrams or setting up an information board.

What are the entry requirements?

There are no formal qualifications for our Level 1 courses.

The College will always treat each applicant as an individual. Should you not have or not expect to obtain the grades stated above, or not have relevant industry related experience, the College would still welcome your application for this course as this will enable us to identify whether this course is, in fact, the right course for you or whether another course may be more appropriate.

All course offers will be subject to satisfactory interview and reference.

If you have criminal convictions or cautions, please do not be put off from applying for the course. Your acceptance on to the course will depend on the nature of any convictions and will be at the discretion of the College and your placement provider.

Study Programme

If you are aged 16-19, this qualification will form a substantial part of your study programme. The study programme has been designed to ensure that young people are fully equipped and ready to move on to the world of work or higher level courses. In addition to your main qualification, will you also get the opportunity to undertake relevant and CV bolstering work experience out in your chosen industry. You will also be supported through maths and English qualifications.
